"It's not fair!"

The other day Jill and I took our kids to Inflatable World. They had a great time climbing and sliding down the huge jumpies. Just as we were about to leave Thomas hurt his foot jumping off one of the inflatables. I'm not exactly sure what he did but he was in a lot of pain. That evening he asked if he could eat dinner on the couch because it hurt his foot to stand up. I told him that would be fine. Well, Kate got wind of the conversation and asked if she could eat dinner on the couch. I told her no and gave her the reason why I was only letting Thomas eat on the couch. Kate is very stubborn and so she whined and pleaded for about 20 minutes. (A frequent occurrence at my house.) Finally at my wists end I told her I could hurt her foot really bad to make it fair. She gave out a puff and headed toward her room. Finally, she understands I thought to myself . I reasoned with her, or so I thought. After a few minute she came out with her teddy bear in hand, lied down on the floor next to me and said, "OK, I'm ready."

Naked Weather Day

I love driving down Poinsettia and turning right onto the 101. Because shortly after I make my turn the breath taking view of the vast ocean opens up to me on my right. I have lived in Carlsbad for almost 3 years and I still get a tinge of excitement in my tummy every time I get that first glance of the beach. Also, in that moment comes many memories of visiting California for our family vacations. I grew up in Utah and visiting the beach was like going to a foreign land. I never thought that one day I might live so close. Someone asked me recently if the weather gets mundane. My answer to that is... Nope not a bit! What's makes it soooo great is not the blue skies or the year round green vegetation, although that's nice. It's that we have so many what I like to call "Naked Weather Days." It's the kind of weather you could be totally naked and be perfectly comfortable. Not too hot, not too cold...just perfect. We enjoy beautiful weather year round with an average temperature of 70 degrees. I heard once, although I don't know if it's true that there's a section along the coast in San Diego county, which includes Carlsbad, that enjoys more 72 degree days then anywhere else in the world. It doesnt' get better than that?

Passion Rekindled

This past weekend my good friend April Meeker and her husband Ben had a fabulous dinner party. It was a night full of beautiful people, interesting conversations, delicious food, perfect weather (well, we do live in Carlsbad) and a chance for us to give to a great cause, Craft For China. Earlier in the week April asked if I would help her with the flower arrangements for the table and of course I said yes. I love any excuse to go to the flower mart. I also told her I would donate an arrangement for the raffle. Making the arrangements made me realize like it has all the other times I've work with flowers is that I simply love it. My background is in Interior Design. Before Kids I worked for FFKR Architects in Salt Lake City and Add Inc. in Boston doing commerical projects-offices, restaurants and retail. In between my jobs at architectural firms I worked for Winston Flowers in Boston. I loved everyday I worked there! Thank you Liz and Marcella. I learned so much. In addition to working at Winston's I have done several weddings and dozens of random arrangements for random events. So because once again my passion has been rekindled and I believe I'm brave enough I am going to start a small flower business and do what I love to do. I think I want to specializing in small social events and corporate and residential weeklies but we'll see what comes my way as as things develop. I will keep you posted.

Scratch and Sniff Clean

I love my kids right after they take a bath. They smell sooo good, even my 7 year old Thomas! There's no smell of poop, dirt, spilled food or played all day outside sweat. Yum.

One of my favorite things about kids is that they don't have a society driven distorted body image. They don't care about how long their legs are, or that their booties are flat like their dads or that they stand slightly pigeon toed like their mom. My kids giggle as they look in the mirror and pull funny faces and stand in silly poses. I like to think they look in the mirror and really like the person staring back and them. I wish I could bottle up those moments and hold on to them for the future when they learn that evil game of comparison.

I love them and I think they're perfect!
